Many artists are looking for inspiration in Egypt. The country offers a rich variation in subjects, people, festivals and feasts. Colours and light are abundant. Nature offers much variation, the Nile, the desert, the mountains or the green fields. The people are friendly. Egypt offers the perfect background for photographers, painters and sculptors, dancers and musicians, so many artists came to Egypt and worked here.
Famous is of course Agatha Christie who used her trip to Egypt as the decor for her famous novel “Death on the Nile”.
The Swiss painter Margo Veillon used village life as a subject for her beautiful drawings and paintings in water colours.

The Belgium painter Jean Verame tried to rediscover the secret of the pharaonic art of colour making; in the process he painted a whole valley in Sinai in the colour blue. In the village of Tunis in the oasis of Fayoum foreign and local artists are working together inspired by local techniques to make fantastic pottery.

Music and dance belong to daily Egyptian life. You will find a drum and traditional songs at the camp fire in the desert, but also an amazing concert in the opera of Cairo, or the Tanoura (Derwish) or Zar music in small scale establishments, regularly there are belly dance festivals. There is something for every taste.
